Intrepid Robotics, Inc. is a Texas C corporation formed on January 13, 2009, to commercialize a new technology developed to satisfy the specific inspection needs of the petrochemical aboveground storage tank industry.
The Idaho National Engineering Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) developed the Maverick technology in the late 1990's from a crawler used to inspect nuclear facilities. Engineers thoroughly tested Maverick with a number of companies within the AST industry. INEEEL and Solex Robotics won R&D's Top 100 Award for this robotic technology in 1999.
Our Management Team
Blake Barnett, President and Chief Executive Officer. Blake is President and CEO of Intrepid Robotics. He is responsible for capital raising, security initial financing to build robots and funds for growing operations, marketing to and obtaining contracts for service with customs and creating strategic relationships with other vendors and third party engineering firms influential within the AST industry. He graduated from Yale University with a double major in History and Economics. He is an internationally known investment banker who brings twenty-eight years of experience in financial management. Blake led the financing of a number of entrepreneurial companies during his employment with E.F. Hutton, Merrill Lynch and since 1985, his own firm, Blake Barnett & Co., Inc., which managed an NASD registered broker dealer from 1996 to 2004. He also managed the Energy Futures Hedging operations for the Galleria office of Merrill Lynch in 1984 helping clients hedge production shortly before oil prices fell from $30 to $10. Blake received the National Leadership Award in 2001, served as co-chairman for the Business Advisory Council for the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2002, and earned distinction in 2003 by the NRCC as Houston's Businessman of the Year.
Dr. Fathi Ghorbel, Vice President and Chief Technical Advisor. Dr. Ghorbel is a professor of robotics at Rice University in Houston. He is founder and chairman of IT Robotics, Inc., an early stage robotics company that has secured funding through the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and produces piggable robots that can inspect small diameter piping in refineries. Dr. Ghorbel is responsible for the introduction of new technologies into the existing robotic platform and liaison with manufacturing and public/private partnerships. Dr. Ghorbel received a B.S. degree with honors from Pennsylvania State University, a M.S. degree from Carnegie-Mellon University, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign all in Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Ghorbel is a Member of the ASME, a Senior Member of the IEEE, a member of Sigma Xi, IFAC, SIAM, IASTED, ASEE, and past President of the Tunisian Scientific Society (TSS). He is a Founding Member, Member of the Board of Directors, and Vice-President of the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF). He was the recipient of the medal of "Order of National Merit in the field of education and sciences" by order of the president of Tunisia. He is the past Vice-Chair then Chair of the ASME Biomechanical Systems Panel, and the past Chair of the IEEE Control Systems Society's Technical Committee on Manufacturing Automation and Robotic Control. He is an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, an Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, an Associate Editor for the IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board, and a past Associate Editor for the International Journal of Robotics and Automation. Dr. Ghorbel served in conference organization and program committees at different organizational levels including Conference Chair, Conference Co-General Chair, Publication Chair, Publicity Chair, Finance Chair, and Member of several national and international conference Program Committees.
Fred Schwartz, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Fred has been a leader and innovator in the chemical and environmental industries, first through his leadership at RUST Remedial Services and later through his management positions at Concept Chemicals and SET Environmental. Fred received his BS in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon, and his MBA from Washington University in St. Louis.
Jerry Thompson, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Jerry has extensive accounting, corporate planning, SEC reporting and management of real estate and distressed property disposition over his career as a CPA and financial executive. He began his career with FirstCity Bancorporation of Texas ultimately becoming Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Controller. Jerry earned a BA degree from the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University.
Calvin Perry, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Calvin's experience includes roles as Vice President and Senior Vice President with American Express Financial Advisors and First Franklin where he led efforts to increase advisors' production and profitability. Calvin graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a BBA in Marketing and Management.
